What is the purpose of religions?

We all follow one religion or the other. Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism and Christianity are the four major religions in this great land which has also given birth to Buddhism. According to me, all the religions serve only one purpose. They are ways to worship God, to remember the almighty and to express our gratitude towards him. The worshippers of all religions, the followers of all sects and people of all castes are the same. They have the same physical anatomy, the same material needs, the same blood groups and intelligence levels. The difference in the skin colour or the outward appearance happens just due to the different climatic conditions prevalent all over the world. The differences in the ways of worship prescribed by various religions are also directly affected by the culture and the needs of the regions where they were first practiced and it also depends on the mentality and beliefs of the individuals who preached it first. I strongly disagree to anyone who says that Islam is the only religion that should be followed or Hinduism is the better religion. I believe that all the religions are the same but its humanity that should come before everything else. Love, compassion, understanding and respect of other religions, castes and communities can make this world better and not hatred, dislike and disrespect for others. No country or religion can succeed if they think that they can kill or wipe out the others to establish their own supremacy.

I just ask one question to those who kill in the name of religion, why do they do that? What purpose will it serve? They say that it will justify their religion and their duty to their God (although I believe in oneness of God and there is nothing like God for Hindus or Muslims, its just a misconception according to me. No religion supports manslaughter and I don’t believe that any God would endear his disciples if they kill fellow humans for justifying their own superiority. I believe God will love those who take care of others, who have compassion, empathy and love for others. If you want to serve God then serve, old, sick and homeless. There are children who reject their parents in the old age and parents who throw their just borne away in order to lead a comfortable life and on the other hand the very same people worship God and donate generously to temples and mosques and other religious trusts etc. I consider their actions to be most unholy, who snatch food from underfed, who kick a person lying on the roadside but beg to someone living in a palace. Those who get involved in any kind of inhuman activities or show off false pride are sinners according to me and those who hurt them who are innocent.

In the end, I would just like to say that my post is not intended to create any debate, its not aimed at hurting or igniting anyone’s sentiments (I write this because I know that people in this country take offence of anything except ignorance of humanity). I just wanted to express my views on God, religion and what is right and wrong according to me. If there is someone who agrees to me, I am honoured, but, if there is no one, then please ignore this post and don’t retaliate in any manner.

God bless all
